make soy candles the easy way

It’ no great secret that the current projections indicate that the western world has badly miscalculated its power needs and we are likely to be having major brownouts on a regular basis in the near future – not really a big surprise when you consider other “minor miscalculations” that have come to light recently, but even if you disregard 2012, pole shifts, melting ice, and all the other things that are going on, it seems to me that having a few candles around could be a mighty good idea, especially if you don’t have to buy them.

Soya is a high yielding crop that can be encouraged to grow almost anywhere and doesn’t require a great deal of space.

Candle making has been considered an enjoyable, useful and rewarding hobby for years – drop in to the Women’s institute tea mornings, boot sales and markets almost anywhere and you can find candles from the plainly practical to the elegantly artistic on sale. It is a skill that can light your home and help pay your bills at the same time, especially if you don’t have to pay for the raw materials.

To find that you can take a food crop as versatile and beneficial as the Soya been, producing milk, proteins, sauces, Bean curd, Tofu… AND being making candles out of the beans is just a great idea, not just for growing but for making products for food as well as products you can use for lighting and low level heating! It would suck to be without a light bulb but it would REALLY suck if you didn’t have candles either! This is the easy way to make candles that can be used as gifts to friends and family or you could make a small business from making candles for the community or even share them out!

In any case people forget that being self sufficient is not just about the big chunky stuff like power generation but even the small things like soy beans can make a huge difference in your life. You’ve experienced power outages in the morning and night in your cities and hopefully the LIGHTS may never turn off, but would you risk not having a candle around if they do?

This investment is to stave off such things; it’s also a craft which is enjoyable and essential for those who want to be self sufficient!

It is easy to acquire information on gel and paraffin candles but why not make the transition from carbon based options to the greener and more sustainable alternative of using soy, a material which you and your family can harvest n eat whilst also being able to make candles to use from this great tofu making resource as well?

If you would like a hobby then why not take up learning how to make candles or how to make soap to teach family members or to make gifts which have that personal touch which the shops couldnt possibly match?
