Gardening - Gardening

Without insects, there will be no plants; without plants there will be no gardens; no food, no atmosphere and no people, and this will happen exactly as fast as the insects that pollinate the plants expire; when the last bee is gone, you can anticipate one growing season and then say goodbye. And yet, insects [some of them, are the bane of a gardener’s life, destroying plants from above and below; in some cases decimating crops. Clearly, something must be done to maintain a healthy yield from your crops. It is possible to establish a balanced eco system in which the good insects [ladybirds, spiders, etc. eat the bad ones and the crop survives largely unharmed. Before we arrived, this balance was maintained naturally, but if there is one thing you can say for humans it is that they are determined to “improve” on everything – even “god’s” work.

Control of harmful insects by natural means is of course still possible and highly desirable, but it cannot be achieved overnight, so something must be done.

Having a working knowledge of basic chemical insecticides is a useful thing and some of them are even recommended for fruit and other crops, but we have seen time and again how chemical based insecticides and even drugs have been guaranteed safe for consumption only to be proven twenty years later to be responsible for terrible suffering such as thalidomide, for example and the consequences of DDT.

Personally, I feel that if the head of the company that produces something like insecticides, is not happy to sit and eat a box of the stuff on his breakfast cereal every day, then im not happy to eat it on my food either and of course that is where all crop treatments end up – in your food. Of course, that is assuming that there is going to be a readily available supply of manufactured goods when you need them, which as we know may well not be the case…..

We feel very strongly that having a working knowledge of effective insecticides that can be produced from readily available materials, including knowing which ones will only kill the ”bad guys” – insects, parasites fungi etc. all year round and which ones will kill you – which ones are best for which is, to any sane, responsible Gardner is an absolute must!

Well how about investing in this method of making home safe insecticides which are neither chemical based so you never have to depend on someone else to formulate different kinds of insecticide for you? Having this book will expand your knowledge on this subject, possibly save you from continuing to ingest poisons when you eat your produce ,save you money – and very likely save some bees as well!
