How to make the worlds best compost - The guide book which makes the difference between being good at growing and GREAT at growing food or flowers!
The difference between growing up and evolution is, in humans, a small one. Anyone striving to be what I think of as a “real” human being and not just another robot singing the company song must be an individual in their own right responsible for their own actions, self governing and self determined – this, in essence is the core of the “American dream”. To achieve this is to be self sufficient in every respect.
A truly huge part of the evolution now taking place and peaking over the next few years, is precisely that self sufficiency which, I suspect will also be fundamental to surviving the next few years, at least from now until 2012 or perhaps 2013.
Growing your own crops – producing your own food, free of chemicals, synthetic contaminants and all the other horrors of this society – [gm etc.] is going to be a large part of that self sufficiency. Every self sufficient grower must understand that in repeatedly using the same land to grow crops, even using a basic 3 field strategy, you will still be depleting the soil of the very core ingredients that are fundamental to healthy crops and healthy people.
The nutrients and minerals in the soil took thousands of years to accumulate. In nature, the plants that take them from the soil in time die and return them to the same soil; when you farm the land you break this cycle, and each year the crops that you harvest will contain less and less of the vitamins and minerals that are essential to life.
UNLESS you replace them.
In any self sufficient community/allotment/piece of land you will have to find a way to reduce the impact of your crop growing. There are many ways to do this, from crop rotation to the use of additives, both synthetic [not good now and never have been ] and natural.
Bringing in additives from outside the farm area will, inevitably COST MONEY –doesn’t matter whether its cash money or bartered produce, you have to remember it is still MONEY in a very real sense and, lets face it, thee never seems to be enough. With time, in a well designed and well established system, this challenge [we don’t allow problems, only challenges] will resolve itself , but only if you organise and plan for it to do so.
One of the most immediate and effective steps that you can take towards maintaining your soil is COMPOSTING. Composting is and has for millennia been almost a religion among gardeners, especially those wise enough to shun the synthetic nitrates and chemical horrors of forced growing that have resulted in colourless, tasteless and largely nutrition free food for so long now – a problem that is reflected in the youth of many nations today.
You could go and make a compost bin, but people have already covered that... or you could make a Bokashi bin which is designed for meat and household organic waste but if your looking to create a type of organic compost / fertiliser / all in one solution then take a look at this picture of the brown blob.
This is the compost - your plant literally sits on top and has the best meal of its life EVER! You literally treat the plant to the best meal ever so in turn it can give you the best food that nature can grow! Forget using synthetic growth formulas and miracle grow, this is made by you which eliminates most of the inherent difficulties of using slow composting methods but also it allows you to directly control what goes into your food!
What we have here is not actually compost - but a jump in composting technology, ladies and gentleman, this is Colloidal Humus! If your not using this then you are flushing your nutrients and wasting money trying to get the best plant ever. This is a trouble free way of creating your own compost which does not require a bin or any sort of expensive device to produce this 'miracle grow' putty
